We are experience problems with our dryer. After 2-3 loads it overheats and will not operate until it cools down.

Before rushing out and buying a motor

With the dryer off rotate the drum by hand should rotate fairly easily
I know "fairly easily" is not a great description so try it on a couple dryers of the same size, to get a feel for it.
If there is excessive drag from the drum, the motor has increased load and will overheat

Open the dryer up and check/clean the motor. You say it is 10 years plus so if it has never been cleaned inside, the motor could be clogged with lint. Armature should turn easily.

Clean and check your vent system, may not be a direct cause of this problem but is always a good idea when working on a dryer.

When you have it apart also check drive belt, drum supports (front and back), idler roller, felt drum seals. Check all bearings and shafts.

Basically a general overhaul.

Am not saying it is not the motor but it could be other things also.

Then you will be able to figure out the total cost. It may make more sense to replace the unit.

Here is a good link. Check out #9.

Thank you for the suggestion, we will try. I think it may be the vent system, as it gets really hot in the laundry room, even with the vent on.

I will try and let you know how it goes. Thank You!!!
