Default Dryer overheated now will not start
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11060932990
Age: 5 - 10 years

The dryer got extremly hot and turned off before the end of the cycle. I let it cool down. Now it will not turn back on.I thought it was the thermostat.Replaced with the thermal cut off kit from Part Select, #334278. It still will not start. Could it be the Thermal Protection Fuse? Thanks

I bi-passed the thermal fuse and it started;but it overheated after 20minutes and turned off. Will not start again. Now what do I check?Could it be the Thermistor.
Thanks

It sounds like you have a motor problem, if you decide to replace it, you better be sure the vent is clear to the outside. That is usually an indication of a clogged vent. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

The vent and all internal parts are clean and lint free. The vent is a straight shot to the outside and only 18 inches in length. What causes the overheating? The dryer itself gets hot to the touch and then stops in mid cycle and will not start again.
Thanks

Where is it getting hot to the touch? If you have a straight shot out the vent, I wonder if the heating element has gone to ground. I would like to where it is getting hot to the touch. Tom

the dryer itself is warmer than usual, the top, the front etc. I tried different settings for heat levels and they all seemed to be the same and very hot.Even the clothes at the cottons high setting was hotter than usual and then it stopped before the cycle was to end. Thanks

I am almost wondering if the drum is turning the whole time. Whirlpool has had some problems, with the idler pully, just about disintegrating. Check it and see. Because if the vent is clear, there is no reason for the heat not escaping. I am leaning in the drum not turning properly. But, you could still have a motor problem. Check the pully and see. Tom,
Drum is turning fine.Would the motor be bad even though I'am getting heat and the drum is turning. The main problem is the buildup of high heat which stops the dryer and then will not start again. What does the thermistor contol?
Thanks for the help.

There is a operating thermostat on the dryer. It is in the back. Not the one on the heater housing. That will control the temp. You can replace it. But I am pretty sure the motor might be bad too. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
