Default Dryer not tumbling; burning plastic odor
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FSG747GES1
Age: 5 - 10 years

My dryer tumbling action began to stop intermittently, but could be started again after a period of time. I noticed a plastic (maybe rubber?) smell. After opening up the whole machine, the only thing I could see was that after removing the belt (and took out the drum as well), everything ran and no smell was produced. Could a 6 year old belt that's worn but not broken cause all of these symptoms? I will buy a new belt, but should I replace anything else while these parts lay all over my basement floor?

Thanks for the help,
Laura

While apart, plug into motor pins 4$5 with a "cheater" cord that will supply 115 volts.
Run motor for a perios and see if it cuts off. Also check for lateral play in the bearings and a burnt start winding. Usually a bad motor will make a grouling sound when started.
