Default Dryer not running
Brand: Admiral
Model Number: LNC7757A71
Age: More than 10 years

Halfway through a drying cycle my dryer stopped running.

My first thought was the breaker, which had not tripped. I did flip it off & on just in case. After unplugging, I checked the power cord and connections (which look good).

Next I opened the top & front cover. I did discover quite a bit of lint & dust that has accumulated. I cleaned this out and checked the door switch for continuity: it opened & closed the proper contacts as I pushed the switch. (Used my VOM.)

I can hear the motor in the cycle selection knob when it is set to most drying cycles, but not all. The dryer does not run regardless where I set the cycle knob, even when pushing it in to start. Also, the interior light will not turn on when the door is opened.

Any suggestions on how to proceed troubleshooting?

Look Around The Heating Element, You Should Find A Very Small Thermal Fuse, About The Size Of A Nickle With Two Small Wires Attached. With The Machine Unpluged Remove The Wires And Test For Continuty. If Faulty Replace. On Admirals,(norges, Magic Chefts, Performas, And Crosleys) When Lint Build Up Makes The Machine Overheat Fuse Blows.
Check For Clogged Vent And Hose Also, Has Same Effect On Fuse Bettyboop

Thanks bettyboop... I greased my elbows and started in already. I had to trace the wires with my VOM to find the thermal fuse, it is in a package similar to a TO-3. It was open and I purchased a kit allowing me to replace this and the high temp switch as well. I had removed the drum already looking for the more common thermal fuse. After completely vacuuming everything and replacing the fuse & switch all works great! The thermal fuse is located to the right of the heating elements and is simple to replace after opening the top and removing a single screw.
