Default Dryer not heating up
Brand: Crosley
Age: 1 - 4 years

I just got the dryer from a friend - it has sat in a shed for a while prior to me getting it. I switched the power cord from my old dryer to the newer one (first hot looked ok, neutral looked ok, second hot looked a tad but not overly questionable), cleaned the lit trap, installed a new fireproof vent tubing (it does have a bend in it but not a cut off of air flow due to being shoved back into its alcove) plugged it in and it worked like a charm (although what I can only gather to be dirt flew out into the dryer vent tubing along with a few clots of clumpy lint). I cleaned out the alleged dirt & lint thinking its better to be safe than sorry and on to my next load. 45 tumbling minutes later when I when the buzzer went off I still had wet clothes.
Could it be the cord ..... the thermostat.....the element ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You probably blew a thermal fuze. If so you need to change both the fuze and overload thermostat. Then check your venting outside, probably a clog somewhere.

Pardon my stupidity but the fuse as in the dryer or in my house ?
Im pretty much guessing you dont mean the house.
Im sorry Im new to dryer repair (but mechanically inclined) and very willing to learn.
As for the venting outside, that part I already did & it is clear.
Lastly, how much should I expect these parts to run and it this something a newbie like myself can do or am I stuck calling a tech ?

Sorry so clueless...

You will need a meter to check this. Take dryer apart and check for burnt wires or loose connections. Meter the power comming in. At the three terminals in the back, neutral is in the middle and power on either side, make sure you get 230 volts on either side of neutral.

Well I reconnected my old dryer as I had a ton of laundry to do and it worked fine (after switching the old cord back) so, Im guessing it wasnt the cord.....I have no meter so I guess Im stuck getting a tech to repair the darned thing.

Back again !!

Ok so I checked the two thermostats on my dryer...the one by the heating element read zero and the one by the blower (control thermostat ?) read one point something which is Im guessing is what the problem is.
Im just seeking confirmation on that they are both supposed to read zero & I need to change the control thermostat.

Thanks !!
