Default Dryer not drying and causing high elec bill
Brand: Roper
Model Number: RED4440SQ0
Age: Less than 1 year

When we 1st bought the dryer it worked great. We moved about six months ago and my wife noticed the dryer wasn't drying correctly. In this house we have an attic vent and I thoroughly cleaned it out and the dryer began to dry more or less "normally" again. Last month she told me that she's having to dry twice again. I checked the vent and expecting there to be a lot of lint, there wasn't. Our last two electric bills have been extremely high and I noticed that when the dryer is on the electric meter goes crazy. Can someone help direct me what to do?

Here is what I would suggest you do. Take the vent hose of at the wall, and leave it on the dryer, and on the end that you took off at the wall, put a panty hose on the end to catch the lint. Lay the vent hose on the side of the dryer, making sure the air can flow out in an open area, and have your wife do a load of laundry. If it works fine, you still have a vent problem. If it still takes too long to dry, replace the cycling thermostat. If you need more instruction you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Do you have an electric stove?
If you do, you should be able to use it to check if you have an electrical supply problem to the dryer.

Turn on the dryer, full heat and watch your electric meter to get a feel for electrical usage.
Turn it off
Turn on your stove with the bake element on and both large stove top elements on
Check the meter
It should be using approximately the same amount of juice
