Default Dryer noise help
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DR4500EA0WW
Age: Please select

I'm not sure of the age of the dryer because it was given to us used. We plugged it in yesterday and it squeaks. BAD!!! I looked around on the internet and found a site that said to put some oil on the Tension wheel ??? There was a pic of a white wheel so I sprayed some wd40 on it. I made it a little quieter for a few minutes so we did it again. and a third time. Now it still squeaks and every once in a while makes a popping noise. My husband is trying to convince me that it's the heat and cold mixing and making it pop. It's not the same noise. This is in the machine. My in laws are offering to buy a new one but I hate for anyone to spend money on us. Any advice on how we could fix this????? I would love any schematics too. My husband said the belt looked ok. Sometimes after the popping noise there is a little scraping noise. Although I apparently am the only one who hears it! Any thoughts?? Thank you!!!!!

Take the idler pulley off and check to see if the hole in the center of the pulley is warn and no longer round.

Use a high temperature grease to lubricate the pulley when you put it back on.

The bearing in the front may be warn causing the scrapping sound.

Also check the bearing in the back of the dryer for wear.

Here is a link to your dryer model DR4500EA0WW.
