Default Dryer no heat
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: Moffat
Age: More than 10 years

The Hi-Limit Safety Thermostat has 4 terminals. I disconnected the wires and there is good continuity between the two lower terminals (closest to the drum) which had black wires attached. There is infinite resistance between the two upper terminals which had white wires attached. Is this thermostat working property or should there be good continuity on both sets?

From what I have been able to research, I believe the operating thermostat is the one located below the lint trap. Continuity on it is fine. The Hi-Limit Thermostat is generally located close to the heating elements as it is in the one I was referring to. It also is marked L240.

I have checked the heating elements seem to be fine. I used an Ohm meter and am getting a reading of about 25 Ohms between each of the terminals which I think is about right.

This dryer is about 15 years old. What is also interesting is that there was no heat a week ago, but then after turning it off and then back on, there was heat. But since then there has been no heat at all. Everything else is working fine - just no heat.

Default No dryer heat - think I found problem

Looks like the motor switch is not functioning properly.

I removed the two leads for the heating elements at the motor switch (isolated them) and then plugged in dryer. Using Ohm meter checked switch with dryer turned off - no continuity as it should be. When the dryer is turned on (motor starts) their should be continuity across this terminal on the motor switch but there was still no continuity (unless you are very comfortable working with wiring I would not recommend this procedure).

Looks like the motor switch needs replacing. Any ideas where I may find this part or will I have to order a whole new motor with a switch attached?

Very good trouble shooting. Do you have the teck sheet that usually is in the control panel? One thing that G E does is list key part #'s, if you have it, look up motor switch part #. Bettyboop
