Default Dryer needs new timer?
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LE9480XWW1
Age: More than 10 years

Should I replace my timer? My timer usually buzzes and turns off the dryer before the timer has counted down to zero. This happens on any cycle and just touching the timer knob lightly can make the buzzer go off and stop the dryer. If this happens on the timed cycles and not just on the automatic cycles, can I assume the timer is bad?
THANKS
Jerry

Default More details - dryer needs new timer?

Sorry about any confusion. The problem happens no matter what cycle the timer is set to. Here's an example of what it's doing. Tonight I had to dry some towels. I set the timer to 45 minutes and hit start. About 2 minutes later I heard a beep and the dryer stopped. I went back to the dryer and touched the knob but didn't even have to turn it. It started again. Several minutes later I heard a buzz again. The clothes were a bit drier and the timer was down to 30 minutes. I touched the timer and had to wiggle the knob a bit. It started again. After about 5 rounds of this, the dryer was again off but the towels were dry. There was still about 5 minutes left on the timer. I have the same problem when the cycle is just air (fluff cycle). Does this mean that the problem has to be in the timer or can the problem be something like a moisture sensor even on fluff?
THANKS
Jerry

Do you have a mechanical timer or a electronic push button one?
but your question about wigglin the knob to make it run, sounds worn out to me. and if you are using the air fluff cycle it's just a timed cycle, sensor has nothing to do with air fluff, if you put it on 30 minutes of timed cycle heat , does it work perfect? If not your timer is a dud,

Thanks for the reply. My timer is the old mechanical type. If I set it to 30 minutes timed heat, it has to be restarted several times before it runs the 30 minutes down to 0 and gives me dry clothes. SO, I expect the problem is the timer. I will access the timer so I can verify the part number and order a new one. Thanks for your help.
