Dryer is making a very loud rumbling sort of noise. I have the front of the dryer open and when I spin the tumbler it makes the same noise, albeit not as loud as when it is running. What could be causing this? Belt, the roller? Just plain broken? (Please let it be the last because my husband says the only way i'm getting a new dryer is if this one breaks completely! ) I am reasonably confident that it is something repairable but I really have no idea where to begin diagnosing this machine. Any help would be appreciated.

Something is wrong with one of the Drum Support Rollers. From what you describe the bushing is probably worn out on one of the wheels. You'll have to take it apart and replace the wheel.

We just fixed this same problem. Our problem was the drum support roller, just as stated in the previous post. Once we got the dryer apart, it was a very inexpensive (under $50) and not too hard fix.
