Question Dryer maintenance

What should one do as far as maintenance for a clothes dryer? Mine is electric - what about gas? What's the proper method for giving it a good cleanup, and are there internal parts that need cleaning or blowing out or wiping off every now and then?

I own several secondhand appliances, which means I have few manuals. I appreciate any advice anyone can give.

We have a gas dryer and short of replacing the belt now and again and wiping the dryer down to keep the dust off, we don't do much in the way of maintenance. In fact our manual says that gas dryers are made that way. They need little or no maintenance. It also says gas usually wears longer than electric.

To clean a dryer vent out yourself, you can buy a brush that's specially made for the job. The brush is a long, flexible wire with a handle on one end, and a round bristled head on the other end. To use the brush on a short dryer vent, all you have to do is remove the flapper from the dryer vent on the outside of your house. Then, unhook the vent line from your dryer. Push the brush completely through the line a few times to remove built-up lint. To finish the maintenance job, reconnect the vent to the dryer and replace the flapper on the outside of your house.

I have a whirlpool dryer, Model# LEB6200PQ1, the drum turns but the dryer will not heat. What could be the cause. We purchased this on 2-12-06.

Is there a fuse inside the control panel, or could it be the heating element?
