Here is a link to your dryer
Maytag NDE5800AYW

The two things that come to mind are the motor and the blower wheel

Check the blower wheel is on the motor shaft tight and is not rubbing on the fan housing

Check the motor's bearings for slop and the below
One way to check a dryer motor to see if it is bad.

Also check for the dreaded bra wire between the drum and case
Could also be worn front support glides, idler roller or rear support rollers

Thanks for the advise. We will be checking the motor and fan. It is actually more of a squeeking/rubbing noise. It comes and goes like something is slipping in and out of place.

Does this still sound like the same possible problem? The dryer still runs but it gets extremely hot.

Try turning the drum by hand. It should turn fairly easily.
Could be the front glides also
Getting very hot means that you are not getting proper air flow, either the motor is running slow due to increased drum load or the blower wheel is loose and not turning fast enough. Only way to really find the cause is to take it apart. I would also give the unit a good cleaning inside and also clean and check the vent system.

Yo Mo, The best thing to do on that Amana is replace the 2 rollers the idler pully, and the belt. Because first of all the parts are cheap, and if you are going into the dryer, this is what we call a drive system rebuild. It can't cost you more then $40.00 for all the parts, and it is no big deal. If you need help, or need me to walk you through the repair, I can be reached at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
