Default Dryer keeps shuting down
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: performa
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Performa by Maytag dryer works but after running 5-20 min. it shuts down.

I have cleaned the lint out of all the duct work and even shortend the dryer hose but it still does this.

The blower is working when the drum turns the blower fan turns too.

Do I have a bad limit switch or sensor somewhere??????

I should have added that the heating element is getting hot, maybe to hot??????

Can you please provide with with your model number?

It could be a sensor or the motor over heating.

Thanks for the reply. I could not find a model num. and of couse I can't find the owners manual. But the schematic that was in the back of the control panel had the numbers 53-3465 "rel" in the lower right hanc corner.
The top of the cabinet above the heating element will get hot enough in 2 min. that I don't want to keep my hand on it.
On the fluff setting the motor will run as long as the timer is set for.
I don't know if the motor is getting weak or the control thermostat is bad or if maybe the back drum gasket is getting worn. This dryer dries about 15 loads of clothes each week.
Wes

The model number is found either on the door or around the opening.

It sound like a thermostat.

Try running the dryer without the vent hose on and see if it shuts off.

Sheila, thanks for the help. I did disconnect the vent hose and the dryer shut down in about 2 or 3 min. I didn't time it for sure but it was pretty quick. So now what???? I think it might be the control thermostat. This has one of the heated thermostats that have 4 connecters on it located down by the blower. Wes

is the dryer actually turning off or just the heat. That 4-wire therm wont shut the dryer down only the heat. If the machine is totally shutting off how long do you have to wait before you can restart tell me this ill tell you how to fix it.

A.M. I was thinking that the control thermostat was not shuting down the heating element when it got up to the max. operrating temp... Anyway from the time the dryer shut completly down until I could restart it was 2 min. 35 sec.....Yes the dryer completly shuts down not just the heating element. I think the saftey thermostat is doing its job but perhaps I am wrong. Wes
Oh by the way thanks for the reply and the help........
