Cool Dryer heating problem
Brand: Speed Queen
Model Number: AGS68AWF
Age: 1 - 4 years

Speed Queen dryer initially dryer heats then just runs, cycle does not advance in automatic. In timed setting dryer initially heats then runs cold for remaining time. On investigation igniter glows on and off as heat is called for by dryer however gas only fires up when dryer is first started then dryer continues to run and igniter will glow as heat is called for but no gas is released and no further fire up?? Is the problem the thermostats? How many on this model please? Any help appreciated.

Since this post I have discover this is classic symptom of the gas valve coil'(s) going bad. Once replaced this problem resolved.

To reiterate if gas only ignites when dryer is cold and only heats for the first few minutes and then continues to run without heat it is most probably your GAS IGNITION COILS.

If your flame sensor is bad, it will tell the dryer there's no flame and shut off the gas, or the to selonid coils are bad and work for a few seconds then shut down as a safety. It's hard to tell from whear I am

Replace the coils on the gas valve. If the ignitor comes on the first time, and gas comes out also, and then when the ignitor comes on the second time and no gas, that means your secondary coil on the gas valve is bad. Replace them both, it is a cheap repair. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Tom:

You are correct it was the gas coils. I replaced them and gas fires up with each cycle of igniter. I now realize I have another problem which may have lead to the cause of the coils going bad. In automatic cycle the gas does cycle on and off however the timer does not advance (in automatic) and clothes seem to get excessively hot. I have a speed queen ags68awf model dryer. I suppose this is an operating thermostat problem but would like your opinion if possible? help with location and part number would be appreciated. Thanks famm7

The first thing, you want to make sure of is the vent is clear to the outside. The thermostat is located on the blower housing, and the part # isn510707p. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
