Default Dryer got too hot, blew therm. fuse
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.66812692
Age: Please select

About three weeks ago my dryer just suddenly stopped working. I bypassed the thermal fuse and the dryer started right up without a problem. So, I replaced the fuse and all was well.

A couple days ago I noticed the dryer was too hot to touch. After a load, the dryer quit working. I bypassed the fuse again and it started right up.

What could be causing it to overheat and blowing the thermal fuse? I've checked the vents and all are clear of lint.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could have an element shorted to ground, and the element never shuts off. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

I'm finally getting around to check the dryer again.

Thermostat or grounding out? How would I go about checking the thermostat?

Pull the element, and see if it is broken. If not I would replace the thermostat, that is the internal bias thermostat. It is located in the back, it has four wires coming to it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks for the info.

I pulled the heating element and found it was almost entirely black. The "plate" between the wires/coils had a crack that was about 4" long. Also, one of the wire/coils was resting on the plate which makes me think that was the cause of the crack and possibly the overheating issues I've been having??

Edit: Never mind, got the links working. First is the element and rest are there just in case anyone notices something I didn't.
