Default Dryer gets hot and quits till cool down
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: sde3606ayw
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dryer will get warm when it starts and run about 20 mins and then stop. The drum won't turn, nothing.. After about a 30 min cool down it runs again. THere is some rattling noise when it is running and gets up to heat. I checked the vent and it appears open. Ran a leaf blower in it and there seems to be plenty of air coming out. Same way when the dryer is running. If I cannot fix this is there another similar unit available to match the washer I have (Matched set)? I live an hour south of Chicago

Here is a tech sheet for your unit
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16023127.pdf

Here are the parts
Maytag SDE3606AYW

Sounds like the motor's thermal protect is opening
Try turning the drum by hand, it should turn fairly easily.
The rattling at the a start of a run may be an indication that there is a problem with the drum causing the motor to overheat. Could be a roller or the front glides.

Bad motor or stuck tub roller-usually bad motor. Chunk it if bad motor and get a more reliable dryer-a whirlpool.

Default Motor problem

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I took the entire dryer apart. It was clean and all of the safetys were operating correctly. I did find pieces of the plastic fan on the inside of the unit that broke off the fan side of the motor shaft. This would explain the motor overheating and kicking off on heat overload. I did not see a parts breakdown on the motor itself so ordered an entire new motor at approx $115 but this is still better than replacing the dryer which matches the washer. I think the plasic fan was the problem and will know once I install the new motor.
