Default Dryer doesn't heat
Model Number: Whirlpool Imperial Seventy
Age: More than 10 years

I have a Whirlpool Imperial Seventy dryer. It was working fine for last 7-8 years since I bought it. Lately it has stopped heating. When I opened the toe-panel and started the dryer I see a small glow at the end on the left side for couple seconds and then it goes away with a small click. This probably has something to do with the heat not working. Any suggestions? Is this a fix that I can do at home? Thanks

Sounds like it could be the heating coil.. These are reasonable usually less than $30.. You can buy at any repair shop usually. Really easy to replace.. It looks like two springs.. Usually if one has a place where it is disconnected down the coil then this is the problem.. May also be the thermastat.

Thanks for the response. Can you give me little more guidance on how to access this coil or the thermostat? The glow that I see is quite deep on the left hand side bottom. Is the coil right near that? Someone mentioned to me that some times these elements/lighters loose resistance to cause enough heat to ignite the gas. If thats the case is my dryer hosed?
