Two key requirements here, patience and two requirements.
Ist, the dryer belt Must be on the drum with the flat side against drum.
Second, the belt must be forward of the groove in the drum.
After these requirements are met, the only way to get the belt on right is to rout it around the idler pully and pull it forward around the motor pully, and this is the only way it can be done.

Thanks for the reply, but how do you get at them? Does he have to take the back off the dryer too? Does the drum have to be taken off or does the belt get snaked around it somehow?

You have to take the front brackets off to rout the belt around the drum. In the back there is an access panel to get at the idler pully and motor. Go to partselect to get take apart info.

Thank you very much for the help. I'm hoping he can do this in the am. This forum is great, and I am sure I will be lurking here often.
