Dryer has been squeaking, stopped working on monday. Took it apart and the belt snapped. How do I tell if the idler pulley is worn? Should I just be safe and replace it? Also I took the rear drum bearing off and how do I tell if that is worn? There is only a little bit of play when it is in the socket, it could definately use some grease.

If the idler pulley is worn there will be a lot of up and down play on the shaft.

Take the pulley off the shaft and grease if there is no play.

Make sure that you use a high temperature grease for both the pulley and the bearing.

The rear bearing will have some play.

Check the socket for wear.
