Default Dryer Belt
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: dde7200nmlwh
Age: More than 10 years

Well my dryer drum stopped turning but it was still heating, so I opened it up and the belt was broken. I got a new belt from the closest model number i could, but when I put it on, it's a tiny bit too long, even though it is 87 inches and the old belt was 87 inches. I'm wondering if there's a way to adjust something, maybe the spring, to take up the slack, or if I should just get a new dryer.

The idler pulley should put tension on the belt to take up the slack.

There may be a diagram on the back of the dryer to show you how it is hook up.

Well I have already tried putting on the belt, and the idler pully takes most of the tension off, but it's still a little too long. It's working because the belt is turning, it's just not tight enough to grip the drum and turn it. There is also no diagram on the back unfortuneatly.

What else could i try?

I does not sound like you have the idler on the belt just right.

The idler when in the right place will put so much tension on the belt that there is no slack.

Here is the way the belt should look from the back.
