Unhappy Dryer abruptly stopped working
Brand: Maytag
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a 6 yr old Maytag Performance Dryer. About the last 6 months it hasn't been drying loads of towels completely, like we may have to add 20 extra minutes. We had a repair man come out and take a look at it. He told us that 90% of the time it was from lint buildup. He took the front panel off and sure enough there was 6 yrs worth of lint. We felt a little stupid, not knowing you're suppose to do this every 6 months. Anyways the dryer seem to work better for about a month then started needing extra time to dry. Finally with the last load we cut it on and about 10 minutes later it shut off, completely. There is absolutely no sound coming from the dryer when you try to start it. It's almost as if it's unplugged. I figure I'd dig around in the dryer when I got home but I'd like to know what to look for first. This will be my first time looking at it. I appreciate any help and thanx to the people that reply.

If your dryer was clogged with lint and you cleaned it, the rest of the venting could need to be cleaned all the way to the end. Your dryer could have overheated, and blown the thermal protector fuse, that protects the motor from failure. Also your breaker in the your electrical pannel could have tripped.
If your washer leaves your towels too damp, it will take longer, examples: worn belt slipping and not spinning fast as when it was new, or washing towels on permanate press,(slower spin speed) check everything throughly!!
