Default Dryer
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: DE490
Age: 5 - 10 years

We replaced the belt on this dryer in 7/04, it is now about to break already. There are 2 springs, (one could be a sleeve) It is part #15. that help hold it in place that are shown on the spec. sheet. I only see one spring. Could this be why the belt has worn so fast? Should I just buy a replacement belt or do I need other parts as well?

Check the support rollers at the back of the drum to make sure they are turning freely.

Make sure that the idler pulley is turning freely.

Also check the front glides for wear.

Is the belt cracking or just wearing thin?

Here is a link to your dryer model DE490.
