Default Drum question
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE9700AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dryer apears to have a small crack right at the front of the drum where it rolls over two rubber wheels.
This makes a small "bump bump" noise when it hits the wheels.
I would like to take it out and have it welded.
I think I can figure out how to get it out (any advance knolg. would be apreciated)
My question is: Is this a fesable project?
i.e. will it work?

Actually, you probably can if you have a plastics welder, and the right welding stick. If I am thinking of the same plactic piece that fits around the front of the drum. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com

I assumed it was metal.
If it is plastic I can't do it.
I was only able to feel the crack reaching from the back of the dryer.
I have as of yet not laid eyes on it.

Yes, if it is cracked you can weld it and then grind down flush
Also make sure it is nice and smooth on the inside. Try to keep the grinding area on the insde to a minimum as this could rust over time and leave marks on your clothes.

It probably cracked on the seam
If there is no crack you may just have a flat spot or a chunk missing from one of the rollers.

While you have it opened up give it a clean and check all moving parts.
Also clean and check your vent system and you should be good for another 100,000 miles
