Default Dropped tool below lint trap
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: Profile
Age: 1 - 4 years

Okay, I was cleaning my lint trap located at the bottom of the door of my GE profile dryer and noticed lint BELOW the trap. I removed the trap and used a small plastic tool that attached to my vacuum hose to clean this lint deep down. Well, guess what? The plastic piece (a narrow 4 inch long tube) fell off and now I can't get it out. How can I open the front panel of my dryer. Will I be able to get it out easily if I remove the front panel? Or is it stuck in there forever. Thanks for any help.

On most G E dryers, there's 2 screws in side the door near the top that hold the top on. Remove them, and the top lifts up, and the you'll find 2 small screws on each side near the top front, remove them and tilt out and grab your vacuum tool.
while you have done that, you'll see there's a lot more to clean.make sure you un plug the machine as everthing is electricfied inside,Bettyboop

Thumbs up Thanks BettyBoop

Betty Boop, YOU ARE THE BEST!!! I was so excited to see your reply to my dilemma which was e-mailed to me as well. I just followed your simple instructions on removing two screws on the front panel and then two more on the top panel. Of course, I disconnected the electrical connection first. With the help of my 11 year old son's little fingers we removed the tool that I had attached to my vacuum hose and had fallen in the cavity below the lint screen. It was quite small and wedged in way down. We used a long-handled basting brush to move it closer and voila! It's out! We easily put the dryer back together.

This is an amazing forum and such a help to homeowners such as myself. I googled arount the 'net and found this site. I am female, 50-ish and not intimidated by appliances, just frustrated when simple do-it-yourself information for non-complex issues is not available. I believe that most women are similarly capable. Initially, I did call the "You Know Who Answer Center" and they could not provide me with your simple instructions. I don't need a service technician to come to remove four screws.

Thanks again for your help.

If you can see it at the bottom of lint trap with a flashlight you might try a spring loaded tool pickup (harbor freight has them cheap and they do work) to retrive it back the way it went in. If not the top has to come off first and then the front to access the lint trap from the blower.... not impossible but may be more involved than you want to get... good luck...KLR
