Unhappy Droopy dryer drum
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FLSE72GCS5
Age: More than 10 years

Hi and thanks for all the great info from those of you who seem to continuously contribute. I am guessing on the age of this unit as it was in the house when I moved in seven years ago. Appguy has answered most of my questions about this dryer in other posts but...

I have replaced the upper felt and nylon guide on this dryer but the space between the drum and the guide ring (and felt) is still wider on the bottom of the drum than the top. Clothes are still being snagged and run to the top of the drum and although they seem to enjoy the ride I do not enjoy marked clothes.

I plan on replacing the lower felt but is the excessive droop in the drum possibly caused by the rear dryer drum bearing being worn? Also, this is a stacked unit. Will I need to remove the drum from the top as I seem to have read is the case for floor units?

Thanks for helping me save $$$$$$

Yes a worn bearing could cause the drum to droop down.

Yes to replace the rear bearing the drum will have to come out but it should slide out through the front of the dryer.

Here is a link to your washer/dryer model FLSE72GCS5.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for the reply and the link Sheila.
I ended up just replacing the lower felt (upper had already been done) and this helped with all-around spacing. I think the major issue though was that the tabs from which the front panel hangs had become distorted. Remember this is a stacked unit. This allowed the front panel to drop maybe an eighth of an inch. I realized what was happening when I noticed that the lower mounting screws had to be angled up to replace the front panel. So..I bent the tabs down with a dead blow mallet and inserted a couple of neoprene washers between the tabs and the frame. BINGO. Everything lines up correctly and the dryer is no longer grabbing clothes. I sure was glad I did not have to remove the drum! And I’m the house-hero for keeping repair/replacement dollars in our pockets.
Thanks again!
