Angry Dang dryer is driving me crazy
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE4000AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My dryer dies after its been on for a few minutes, then it won't start at all. If I let it rest for a bit, I can get it to run. Here's the kicker--I have to tape down the door-closed button, push the drum by hand and press the start button. THen the dang thing will run, but usually for about 20 minutes before it shuts down again. HELP!!!! Is is the motor? The repair man was here two days ago. He said everything looked good. He cleaned out the innards and walked away with $125.00 and a smile. Please advise! I'm about to start beating it.

Here is alink to parts and a wiring digram
Maytag MDE4000AYW

The good news is your start switch and door switch work
The bad news is it sounds like you need a new motor
The start winding is probably open that is why you have to give it a push start

Also sounds like you have another problem once started the start winding is not in circuit so should not affect operation. Motor still overheats and thermal protector trips or your heaters thermal cutout is tripping.
Make sure you give the inside of the unit and the vent system a good cleaning
Make sure the outside vent is opening properly
