Default Cant seperate blower wheel from housing
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.77902790
Age: 5 - 10 years

I am trying to install my new motor but i cant seem to get the blower wheel off the motor and out of the housing. i have tried putting a 1/2 socket wrench adapter in there with my drill and hole the drum at the same time and it just spins. i also tried to do it with a ratchet wrench and "break" it like you do when your changeing a tire (spin it one way, then quick change direction to try ot break it loose). someone please help, im getting frustrated. thanks so much

I get a pair of leather gloves and try to turn it off by hand, but sometimes i have had to get a dremel and grind the plastic off the wheel then take a pipe wrench to get the hub off

Pardon my intrusion guys, but they come off real easy all you need is a good set of vice grips, a pair of real channel locks, and a hammer. lock the vice grips on the shaft between the pully and the motor with the adjusting knob of the vice grips toward the right dryer wall, open channel locks 7/8" and place on the square plastic nut on front of blower wheel, now squeeze cannel locks tight ,strike the vice grips hard a few times to your right and the wheel is loose!! Ihave done this a few thousand times with out fail. All whirlpool techs in fla do it this way Bettyboop

So on my dryer motor there is the blower wheel (which has a 1/2in square hole to insert a 1/2 ratchet), no space between that and the housing and the front of the motor. On the rear of the motor there is a cone shaped plastic spacer and then the drive belt pulley, which is held on by a 7/8in nut.

So what do I lock the vice grips on? I have tried to lock them on the rear outer nut (by the drive pulley), and then tap the front hole (blower wheel) with the inserted 1/2 ratchet and that hasn’t seemed to work.

Am i supposed to try to vice grip the plastic cone spacer deal?

I apologize for my ignorance and temporary retardation, from something that should be easy. Thanks for your help and patience.

Don't beat yourself up to much the wheel is doing that. sometimes the 1/2" ratchet just slips around the plastic, bettyboop was talking about whirlpools other blower wheel. Lock the vicegrips on the end of the motor or have somebody hold the shaft from turning and if the ratchet slips around the wheel then very carefully with gloves and two hands grab the wheel and try to turn counter clockwise. BE CAREFULL THE HOUSING FOR THE WHEEL LIKE THE SITE OF BLOOD. I have had to cut out about 2 or 3 of those wheels

I cant get enough leverage laying on my back with my arm in the dryer to hold the motor and turn the wheel, i need some more arms . the 1/2 socket wrench isnt slipping at all yet, but some stress fractures appeared on the face, so i thought i might need to try a diffrent tactic. thanks for further advise, ill give it a whirl...

I'm sorry, but I thought you have a standard kenmore dryer, about 95% of all kenmores. Yours we call the mid-year kenmore, but when I remove one of those, for motor replacement, I put a socket & breaker bar on motor pully aginst the dryer floor, and a 8-10" 1/2" extention in the square hole in the blower wheel, and give it a good tap w/hammer. If replacing motor from burnout from excess lint,
both felt seals on each end of drum must be replaced, they are the weak link in lint problems.Sorry again for my wrong model info .Bettyboop

OLDSCHOOLJEEP
yOU DON'T HAVE TO LAY ON THE FLOOR TO CHANGE THE MOTOR. UNPLUG WIRING HARNESS & WIRES REMOVE 2 SCREWS ON MOTOR, THEN LIFT COMPLETE MOTOR UNIT, AND PUT ON YOUR WORK BENCH, REPLACE MOTOR AND DROP NEW MOTOR UNIT BACK IN WHOLE AND YOUR ALL SETBETTYBOOP
