Default Can't remove blower from motor
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LGR7646EQ3
Age: 5 - 10 years

I need to replace the motor in a Whirlpool gas dryer. Everything was going well until I tried to remove the blower from the motor shaft. I understand that the blower screws onto the shaft; I tried holding the shaft with one wrench and turning the nylon/plastic square nut at the back of the motor, but it won't budge. It being nylon, I can't imagine it has rusted on -- and there is no sign of rust elsewhere. I am afraid that I am going to round the shoulders off the nylon nut. Thanks for any suggestions.

The blower wheel has a left hand thread to remove it you have to turn is clock wise.

Here is a link to your dryer model LGR7646EQ3.

Sheila, thanks, but I knew that. I ended up inadvertently breaking a big chunk out of the square nylon nut at the back of the blower, then tearing the rest of it to pieces until I could get the fragments off. That still left me with a metal core threaded to the motor. By this point, that thing was coming off, by golly! It finally took a vise and a big pair of channel locks. No rust or glue that I could see; I have no idea what Whirlpool was thinking.

With a a few tips, they come off in 2-3 minutes. first lock on vice grips on thr shaft behind the pully, with the adjusting knob of the vice grips towards the right. Next
with a set of channel locks (straight jaw) set i" wide with handels closed. hold the channel locks on the squart plastic blower nut, rap the vise grips firm a few blows with a hammer, and pop,it loosens easily. I do this 5-10 a week, easy and fast.
