Default Burning smell from heating unit
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11066862500
Age: 1 - 4 years

I turned on the dryer today and for the first time there was a smell of burning, when I opened the door there was a strong heat coming out. The smell was coming from the heating unit. I checked and found there was no lint build up visible to the eye. I ran the dryer on air only and got normal operation with no smell. So I took the back off and detached the heating element and it too looked clean. I left the wires connected and laid it on the ground so I could see what was happening as the dryer was running. It would heat up but I didn't get much of a burning smell and after about 15-30 seconds it would turn off. Do I need to replace the heating element or is it something else?
