Default Is it the belt or is it the motor?
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: TDC 7A
Age: 1 - 4 years

Dryer is not tumbling, but if you manually push the drum the dryer will start tumbling. The belt appears to be tight, but when the belt is taken off the motor the motor seems to work ok. Please help !!

Can you please verify your model number?

It will be on a tag with the serial number.

Is the drum binding with the belt off?

Default Is it the belt or is it the motor?

Model : Proline TDC7a

The drum turns freely without the belt on.

When the belt is on the drum will only turn if I give it a little push, but once the drum stops to change direction it won't automatically start turning again.

Without the belt on the motor turns both ways automatically.

Where the belt touches the motor spindle there are little black particals, I'm not sure if they are from the belt or the motor.

There doesn't seem to be any wear to the belt, it still seems tight when fitted.

Hope you can help.

Many Thanks.

I don't have any information on your model.

Is this a commercial dryer?

Is the blower wheel attached to the other end of the motor?

If When You Push The Start Button, And It Makes A Loud Buzzing Sound And Won't Go Without Pushing It, The Start Windings Are Usually Shorted, And Not Replaceable. Then Only A New Motor Will Right The Situtaion. Check For Lint Build Up And Oily Residew, And A Smell Of Burnt Pumpkin. Ihave Seen This Problem 50 Times. Bettyboop
