Dryer won't heat If the heating element shorts to the case, it may continue to operate but at 110v instead of 220v. In effect, the dryer will only produce 1/4 of the heat it is supposed to. In an additional devlish twist, in this very specific circumstance, a continuity test will be OK, since the coil is shorted to the metal duct around it.
