Default Amana dryer will not start
Brand: Amana
Model Number: NDE8805AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

The lights are on. but the pause light just blinks, and it will not run. It was working fine. You can hear it click when you push the start button, but the pause light comes on and just blinks.

Take the front of the dryer. On some amana dryers, they have a smaller panel on the bottom front, take it off. Look all the way back on the left hand side on the bottom. That is where the heating element is. There is a thermostat on there, and there is a thermal fuse. That is your problem. If you have a meter, you should get continuity. If you don't. Unplug the dryer, and pull the two wires off the thermal fuse. It is the one that kind of sits up off the housing. and put the 2 wires together, and tape them up so they don't hit metal, and then plug in the dryer, and see if it works. If it works replace it. DO NOT RUN THE DRYER WITH IT JUMPED OUT. ONLY DO IT TO TEST IT. Once you replace it, check your vent, and make sure it is clean. You can reach me at web site at www. applianceeducator.com Tom

Hi, Thanks,

If the thermal fuse is the round red one, top upper left, with one short black wire coming off the back, and a long purple wire coming off the bottom, I jumped it and the pause light is still blinking.

I believe that was the thermostat, try the other one that is on the housing. Now you are talking about the housing on the very back of the dryer on the bottom left hand side?. On that heater housing one is the thermostat, and the other is a thermal fuse. Put the 2 wires together on that one, and see what happens. Of course you need to unplug it first.
