Default Amana Dryer is making a shreek/squeak
Brand: Amana
Model Number: ALG643RBW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Amana Gas Dryer Model #ALG643RBW or PALG643RBW is squeking bad.
It happens when I first start it and after the dryer gets really hot (like just before the heat kicks off). I cannot locate the noise. I lubed everything in there. I noticed that the noise is directly related to the power being engaged also. If I stop it by opening the door, the noise goes away. I do this a couple times with the door open and closed and for only a fraction of a second. The speed never slows down so I know it can't be the pulley or other non-electric moving parts. I am thinking motor. But the motor works perfect and quiet without the extreme heat. Only when it is right about it's peak temp. the noise starts and tops out in a shreekng wheel sound. when the dryer cools just a bit (heat/flames go out) the noise subsides.

I don't get it. Weird.

Please help.

Hi,

I would take the dryer apart so you can get to the motor.
Remove the dryer belt and turn the motor pulley by hand to see if the motor makes any noise.
