Default Amana Dryer Having Problems Drying
Brand: Amana
Model Number: LEA50AW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Okay maybe someone can advise me on this. For the past two weeks my dryer works for about 20 min. then makes this loud humming/vibration noise and then stops. If I let it cool down for 20 min. it starts up again for another 20 min. So I took it all apart today and discovered the vent tube had come loose from the blower housing and apparently it has been like this for a while as the whole inside of the dryer was full of lint. So I cleaned it all out, motor too, and put it all back together. It still is doing it. Now my thought is replace the motor and belt, but with a dryer that is 8 years old and does make some of the metal on metal noise so I assume the felt pads are bad, and thumps some on start up so from reading here sounds like the rollers are going as well. My question is this with a dryer this old and it wasn't top of the line when I bought it is it worth it or should I go and buy one of the new front loader pairs, energy efficient and all that or should I try to fix this thing? My fear is I do all this and then the element or the thermostat or the control panel stuff goes bad and I have to buy a new one anyway. Anyone have some advice?

Eight years is not that old for a dryer.

The best thing to do is to take the dryer a part and see what you will need to replace.

It definitely sounds like the motor is seizing up.

Make a list and see how much it will cost to fix your dryer.

The element is not that much if it does fail later.

Here is a link to your dryer model LEA50AW.
