Default Always heating - no timer advance in auto
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 970-C81032-20
Age: 1 - 4 years

Discovered I had a problem with my dryer one day when I heard a slight noise coming from the timer area. I figured that I had a faulty timer. I also noticed that the heating element was always on, even while the motor is not running.

I replaced the timer which made no difference. I did discover that the noise was coming from the buzzer, which never stops a slight buzz when in the off position.

The timer will advance in timed dry but not auto dry, and the heating element is always on, motor running or not.

After looking at the wiring diagram I figuered it had to be either the thermal limiter, control thermostat or the high limit thermostat. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to figure out what needs to be replaced and what each of these parts do??

Could it be a moisture sensor that does not appear on the wiring diagram as well??

First place I would check is the heater element

There is a good chance that the heater coil has warped or broken and is now touching the case

Are you sure the Model Number is correct. Cannot find any info on this unit using this model #.

That was it!! When I took the drum out I saw that a finishing nail had somehow come in contact with the heater coil and was grounding out to the frame. Now, just to get it all back together when I get the part..............
