Default Admiral "MAYTAG" Capacity Plus Dryer WAY TO HOT
Brand: Admiral
Model Number: LNC7764A71
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know why the front of my dryer would be getting so hot that I can not even touch it without burning myself? I have changed out the Hi-Limit Thermostate and that did not seem to do anything. It does cool down during cycle though, it is just very very hot in the beginning of the "More Dry" cycle.

Thank you to anyone who may be able to tell me how to fix this.

If your dryer is running hot it likely has a faulty operating thermostat.

This will make it run on the hi limit thermostat.

The operating thermostat is located on the blower housing.

Also check and make sure that the vent is not block.

Here is a link to your dryer model LNC7764A71.

Here is the operating thermostat.

Sheila,

Thank you for the reply. I did however already change that part and it is still really hot. It does start to cool as the cycle proceeds and the temp. should be going down however when it is at the "more dry" stage or at the beginning of the cylce it is very very hot. Is this normal or not?

Thank you again for your help

You said in your first post that it was the hi-limit thermostat that you replaced.

Where was the thermostat you replaced located?

The dryer should not be so hot that you can't touch it.

Take the hose off the back of the dryer and check the air flow.

It sound like you have a restriction.

I replaced the part # 53-2880 the one in the picture you showed me, I thought that was the hi-limit thermostat. I also check the hose all the way to the vent out of the house and it is clear?? What now??

Thank you for your help I really appreicate it. I am worried this may start a fire

Is the element coming on before you start the dryer.

Turn the dryer to the on position and open the door and see if the heater is on.
