Default 30 year old maytag
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: DE408
Age: More than 10 years

I have a 30 year old maytag electric dryer[model DE408]. It hums when I press the start button. I have replaced the belt, rollers, impeller[blower],and the idler pulley. The drive motor shaft does spin freely and the drive motor will run when the belt is off and the blower attached. Is the motor just too old to spin the drum or am I missing something? Thanks for any help. Odin.

Sounds like the drum bearings have gone. Can you spin the drum by hand?

The drum will spin by hand but I went out today and bought a new drive motor. I think the starter windings were going out. It runs like a new machine. Thanks for posting duke3478.
