Default Whirlpool dishwaher inner door panel removal
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: DU980QPDB6
Age: 5 - 10 years

i need to replace my control panel but cannot remove the inner door panel to do so. i have removed the (8) perimeter scews which attach the abs inner door panel to its frame, but the panel does not readily lift off. it's as though it is some how secured in some other fashion and i don't want to "pry" it off for fear of breaking the door panel itself. is it merely stuck or is there some mechanical attachment other than the (8) screws? thanks for your help.

Did you look on the bottom of the door?

yes- the entire perimeter is clear of attachment to the door frame. it seems to be "attached" just to the right and top of center of the panel. i have reviewed the expanded parts drawing but it does not show any sort of attachment there so my next step is to remove the front panel (something i was hoping to avoid) and see what's there. thanks for the suggestion though.

yes- once you remove the front panel you see that there is (1) more screw which securse the door liner to a lug on the front console. too bad nobody at whirlpool would tell me that- told me it was a "liability" issue. replaced my push-button panel, reassembled door and everthing works once again. while other manufacturers may have the same policy, i.e. no help for a diy'er, whirlpool will never sell me another appliance and i have written a letter to the president of whirlpool telling him just that, 'though i doubt that he cares.

But how do I remove the front panel (to get at the screw to release the inner panel)? Please advise. Thanks.

to remove the front panel of the dishwasher:
-close the door.
-at the bottom of the door panel there is a 1/2' wide trimstrip. starting at one end pull it out towards you and away from the end you started (like peeling a banana)
- hold the front panel in the center of its bottom edge, thuis bowing the panel and one side or the other will come out of its track.
-remove panel and sound dampening sheet behind it.
-you will see the screw which secures the lug on the console cover to the rear liner.

I would suggest you call whirlpool and ask them directly, it would probably be easier and you’d be sure of the answer.
