Default What am I missing? Maytag dead...
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: WU-482
Age: More than 10 years

My old (probably 1988 or so) Maytag dishwasher WU-482 was going through a cycle as I went to bed. In the morning, the dishes seemed clean but there was water in the bottom of the compartment and the dishwasher is absolutely dead.

Nothing happens when you manually turn the timer through the cycles. There IS power to and out of the door switch. Power goes from the switch through a set of contacts #1 and TM in the timer then on to other timer contacts and parts of the circuit. (I do have a wiring diagram that was conveniently loose inside the door panel.

What I don't understand looking at the diagram is how there could not be power to at least SOME of the components since I know the door switch is ok. When a timer goes bad does it burn off the contacts or ??? It would seem to me that if the timer motor went bad the unit should still be able to be manually do it's cycles. What am I missing?

Thanks for any comments.

The timer is the brain of the dishwasher and you are right it the motor in the timer fails you would still be able to advance the timer manually to make it drain.

If the dishwasher is not responding that means there is a problem with the wiring or the motor.

Check the wiring after the timer to see where you are loosing your power.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model WU482.
