Default Weird noise during wash cycle
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: DU1148XTP88
Age: Less than 1 year

During the wash cycle it makes a weird noise. It's like a whirring sound or something close to that, it's very, very loud. The dishwasher stops about every 30-45 seconds and then starts again. The drain cycle is slightly louder than usual. the dishes do get clean and the dishwasher drains completely. I cant see food through that circular part at the bottom of the dishwasher. We have ran it a couple of times and it still makes that sound so I don't think its food. We did recently have the garbage disposer in the sink back up and it seems the dishwasher started acting up after that. I think it may be the water pump. But I've never heard a sound like this before. Help please.

Did you put in a new disposal? If so did you knock out the drain plug? Take the bottom front off the dishwasher, and run a cycle, and see if you can locate the noise. I can be reached at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

I took the top piece off the middle thing in the bottom of the dishwasher and got to where the grinder is. the plate is roughed up and I found plastic bits and wht looks like plastic line and plastic tape chewed up. Im guess my 14 yr old threw dishes in the washer without looking to see what was on them or in them and non food stuff got into their and jammed something up. I also found lint like stuff on a mesh piece down the middle of the main piece. My guess is it burnt out the motor or the pump. theres still a lot of stuff thats stuck that I cant get out. Just my luck...

Go back to the parts select area, where you can put in your model #, and it will show you a great breakdown of the product. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
