Default Water coming into dishwasher from side
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: mdb7100
Age: 5 - 10 years

I noticed water on my floor. It was pouring out of the dishwasher bottom. I run a drain cycle, it cleans out the water. When I run water in the sink, water is trickling into the dishwasher from a porthole that is approximately 4 inches from the bottom, on the left side in the rear.

Is this the drain? I don't think it is, since the water below that level drains fine when I run a drain cycle. I would expect that tthe drain would be at the very bottom of the unit.

Any idea why water is trickling in to the dishwasher? What is the purpose of thjis hole?

I did tie my drain hose from the disposal up under the sink so that it is raised. I have seen instructions that there needs to be a 32" loop to avoid siphoning, is that helping, hurting or unrelated?

Also, when I opened the front access panel, there is a clear plastic reservoir in the right front that is filled to the top with water. Is this normal? If not what does it indicate?

Here is a link to your parts
mdb7100 Parts List

Looks like that is your water inlet
Sounds like your water inlet valve is leaking and will need replacing

Thanks fotr the reply. Does the fact that water only seems to be coming in when I run water in the sink agree with your finding of a bad inlet valve?
Other users experience also added a float switch as well. Think that's needed too? Thanks a bunch!

It makes more sense that the water is coming in from the units drain but you said that you have a high loop which should prevent this. Also the drain is not up on the side wall.

I am not sure what you mean by float switch, do you mean an air gap. A device that lets air into the drain line at a high point so that siphoning cannot occur. This will only effect the drain and you have eliminated the drain as the source of the water.

Your problem is very strange and the only thing I can think of is that for some reason when you run the taps the pressure in the line drops and your inlet valve looses it's seal and starts to leak. Again this is very strange.

You could disconnect the units drain at the sink,. put a pail under it and run the taps. Does water flow out of the drain connection?
