Default Wands won't turn, unit hums
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 66517382300
Age: 1 - 4 years

1st, it groaned for several weeks, then one time it would not drain, yet tried it several days later, and it started working again. Then late last week, stopped altogether.

Saw posts indicating chopper area might be clogged. In taking apart, found corner of heavy plastic bag outside of chopper cover, but otherwise, chopper area/screen was clean. Tried to turn chopper blade, but it was quite difficult to turn without forcing it using a screwdriver as lever, and then only moved some 2/3rds a revolution.

Put it back together, and it fills, but only hums, and the washer wands do not move. Unit will drain. Any idea as to what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

It sound like there may be more of the plastic bag wrapped around the motor shaft behind the chopper.

Take that chopper out and check the shaft.

Here is a link to the parts of your dishwasher model 66517382300.

Sheila, thanks for the reply, but what more do I have to remove to get to the shaft? I don't see any more screws

I will be away from the unit for another couple days, but from recollection, it seems to go into a cavity in a grey plastic housing. Not sure how the part above attaches, but if I don't see anything in the immedate area, what do I do to get in further? What part does the chopper attach to?

Thanks.

The chopper is attached to the motor shaft so if something is wrapped around it and not allowing it to turn freely the motor will hum.

Default how to get to motor shaft

Finally got back to this dishwasher, wedged screwdriver in, and began to turn the connection to the chopper counter-clockwise. Was difficult, then freed up as though the piece turning had come off the shaft. Tried washer, and it still hummed.

Query, how do you get to the moter? Do you yank out unit, and turn it on it's side?

You can access the motor by removing the lower panel of the dishwasher but it is easier if the dishwasher is removed from the counter.

Here is a link to a dishwasher like yours. Do not use this to order your parts as you my get the wrong part. Use the parts list to your dishwasher.

Sheila, thanks. I'm out of here for a few more days, but I'll report back when I can get into my washer.

But again, thanks, I really appreciate the help.
