Question Top spray arm not spinning
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PDW7712J00SS
Age: 1 - 4 years

Over the past few months I have noticed that there are sand like particles left on the inside of all my glasses on the upper rack of my dishwasher. I cleaned out the course filters, and removed fiber like buildup from, what I am assuming, is the impeller or garb-orator (inline with the motor, 2 blades similar to that on a blender). I made sure that all the spray arms and connecting tubes were free of obstructions, and tested to make sure that all arms rotated freely. I have in the past broken glasses in the dishwasher. However, from the thorough cleaning that was done I am satisfied that nothing is visibly broken. After cleaning the dishwasher, I noticed that the spray arm directly below the upper rack is not spinning during the cycle. The other 2 spray arms spin vigorously. The water level is just below the heating element. Could the problem be caused by over tightening the spray arm? Or could I have a problem with either the water level, or another internal part in the motor assembly?

Thanks

Is there water coming out of the spray arm that is not turning?

If no water is coming out of the arm make sure that the rack tube is connecting with the feed tube.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model PDW7712J00SS.

Yes there is a small amount of water coming out of the spray arm. Also on occasion the spray arm will rotate slowly. I confirmed that the rack tube is connecting with the feed tube. There is another smaller spray arm at the top of the dishwasher that is connected with the same feed tube, and that one works normally.

Check the spray arm for cracks.
