Default Testing Components
Brand: Other
Model Number: DW246uw
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello and thanks in advance for any advise or help, I have a thermador dw246uw built in dishwasher that quit completing cycles and would run nonstop. I pulled it out of the counter and emptied the water out and replaced it with hot water and it completed a cycle, I was wondering how I could test the components on this thing so I can replace the broken parts.

Thanks,
Mike

I do not have a breakdown of the Thermador make but will try to help.

If the water is not heating the first thing you should check is the heating element.

There is also a thermostat that may be opened.

To check the element and the thermostat you will need a meter.

You can access the heater and the thermostat from the bottom.

If a continuity test show that they are got you will have to do voltage tests.

Hello,
The way the Thermadors from that vintage work is as follows:

In order to advance through the cycles the sensor, aka NTC, must tell the board that the water has reached the proper temps. When it's time to heat, which is around the same time the soap door opens, the board should be sending 120vac to the heater assembly.
If you are going to troubleshoot it yourself, you'll need to remove the door panel, find the solid red wire below the control board and look for 120 on that wire (with it plugged in) while the unit is in the wash cycle(which is after the second fill). If you do see 120, then you'll need to check for 9-11 amps. If you have voltage with no amperage it's the heater assembly. If you don't have 120 it's the board. If you determine it's the board, you can disassemble the control board down to the circuit board and look for a burnt spot on the back. If you see it, you can apply a dab of solder and that will fix the problem.

I realize I may be a little late, but this might help people in the future.

Good Luck..
