Stopped when opened, won't restart

We've always used the dial, last night the dishwasher was opened when it was going, but did not continue when reclosed. Now the lights on the buttons on the left side light up, but the dial does not work. I have no idea how to set the buttons or why they are suddenly on, and the cannot get the dial to work again. The dishwasher does not work right now at all. Any ideas?

Check that one of the buttons was not pressed.

Check in your owners manual for button functions.
