Unhappy Smoking Dishwasher
Brand: Whirlpool
Age: More than 10 years

My 18 year old dishwasher began smoking while it was running. I can't tell where the smoke was coming from. I'm thinking it might possibly be the electrical outlet that was smoking. How do I find out what the problem is? Where do I look? If it is the dishwasher, is it even worth fixing an 18 year old appliance? Help!!!

Was the smoke coming from the door area?

Was it coming from under the lower front panel?

If it came from the electrical outlet it may just be a bad plug.

Can you please supply your model number?

The model number is found on the tube where the door closes on it.

Thumbs down Smoking Dishwasher

Well, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. Yesterday I pulled the diswasher out from under the counter a few inches so I could see where the smoke was coming from. When I turned it on, not only did it begin smoking again but it caught on fire! So the mystery is solved. The smoke & fire were at the bottom underneath the front panel. There are a lot of wires there. I guess I will be shopping for a new dishwasher this weekend.
