Question Same problem with my dishwasher

Hello! I have a almost 5 year old Kenmore Elite dishwasher which does the same thing. It will fill a bit...start to go through the cycles, but hear no water. It drains ok too. I did hear the last time it worked some crackeling noises. And now when I begin to run it (when I test it) it smells like melting/burning plastic. Is this because of something that got broken up and stuck in there? I'm wondering if this is something I could do or do I need to get it repaired by someone with the skills to do such.

Thanks!
Stephanie
