Default Runs about 3-5 seconds. stops
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KUDS24SEBL2
Age: 5 - 10 years

Filled OK, then stopped. Now it will only run/pump about 3 to 5 seconds, then shuts off. Will also do it again right away. Waited several hours to see if motor was overheating (?), but still get the 3-5 second run.

Some evidence (rust) of water leak on motor field laminations.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Dave

PS to my original message -
Removed pump top (inlet?), sorta hoped I'd find some debris but everything looks perfect. Filled again, then hit Cancel - ran about 1 whole minute and drained all water out.
Then back to same-old same-old.
There must be a timer in the electronics - would changing the circuit board make sense?
Help !!!
Dave

Try running the service diagnostics test.

To put it in to the service mode press the high temp wash-air dry-high temp wash-air dry-high temp wash all within 10 seconds.

This will test each function of the dishwasher.

You can advance the test by the pots and pans or soak and scrub key depending on your model.

Pressing the cancel button during the test cycle will initiate a two minute drain.

After the drain the test will be terminated.

If the dishwasher will not run in the test mode you will need to replace the switch membrane.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model KUDS24SEBL2.

Default Progress Report

Thanks for the reply Sheila, and the suggestions.

There has been sort of a new development, but first let me note the test sequence works exactly as it should. All lights and push buttons seem to work OK.

The new development is that I jumpered the door switch so I could fool around with the door open. I eventually got around to loading the machine with dirty dishes (we had plenty). As ususal, it started off OK, then stopped. About 20 minutes later, since it was still not running, I gave up and went to bed. Next morning I discovered it had run through all cycles, the green 'done' light was on, and the dishes were clean and dry.

I sure hope that tells you something - we're about out of clean dishes.

Thx again
Dave

It sounds like there must be a bad connection in the switch membrane.

With the control panel opened run the dishwasher and when it stops use something insulated to press on the board in different spots to see if it will start.

Thank you once again Sheila -

Could you clarify the issue about the membrane? Not sure what you mean by "the control panel open". Are you referring to pressing on the circuit board or the back side of the membrane switch assembly? Maybe I should try both.

Try pressing on both.

By control panel open I just mean with it apart so you can access the electronics.
