Default Replacing seal & pump rotor shaft
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDBH950AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Background: bought a seal kit, metal chop (kit) form EasyApplianceParts for my Maytag MDBH950AWW dishwasher. [location 2N3333]

help: Instructions # 6 that came with the kit calls for puting a tool in a hole in the bottom of the motor to lock the rotor while I unscrew the "chopper sleave". That is all fine and well - except I cant find the hole. Where is it? The (other wise well written) instructions don't say how to find the hole.

Do I pull the built-in washer out and tip it over to find the hole? (Heaven forbid!) Then how to get to the motor shaft inside the washer to unscrew the "chopper sleave"?

Is there another way to lock the rotor to unscrew the part and screw in the new one?

Many thanks!
Irby

The hole is on the bottom of the motor.

You will have to take the spray arm off and work your way down piece by piece to get to the chopper.

It is easier to take the motor out for this repair.

My diswasher is a built in unit. Do I need to pull it out into the kitchen and tip it over and take the motor out from the bottom (or use the hole in the bottom) to lock the rotor to swap the chopper/impeller spindle? If I do pull it out and tip it over, will it be obvious how to do the above, or can you supply instructions?

Thanks,
Irby

You do not have to take the dishwasher out all you have to do is remove the motor from the tub.

For a repair manual with step by step instructions try your library or book store.
