Question Maytag won't drain or wash
Brand: Maytag
Age: More than 10 years

Hello,

I have a Maytag dishwasher that will not drain or wash. It makes a hummiing noise while it is running. I suspect it is the pump/motor since I have cleaned the filter. Was wondering what anyone thinks of my diagnosis before I spend money for a repairman. Also wondering if I should just buy a new one.

Thank you

Remove the bottom access panel and remove the belt from the motor and see if the motor will run.

If the motor still hums then you have a faulty motor.

If the motor runs you may have something caught in the pump not allowing the pulley to turn.

See if you can turn the pump pulley by hand.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model WU282.

Thank you for you help. If it is the motor, could you give me a rough estimate of the repair cost using a repairman?

Thank you

It is hard to give an estimate of what it will cost because different service companies charge different rates.

The cost of the motor from Partselect is $143.88 and then I would say that the labor would be another $100.00 at least and there may also be what they call a door charge.

It would be best to get an estimate from locale service supplier.
